Inspired by the landscape of the Namaqualand in full bloom, this piece was woven by hand on nylon thread using glass beads and hand made solid sterling silver components. The shape resembles a hanging wall tapestry, echoing the multitude of colours and textures found in the Namaqualand landscape during the magical blooming season, contrasted by the brilliant blue sky. It is framed between two solid sterling silver twigs, molded from real organic material and suspended on a chain designed to give it bulk without making it look so heavy as to draw attention away from the colourful display. This piece forms part of the body of work I produced for my Post Graduate Diploma obtained in 2024 in which I explored shared experiences of life as a South African that bind us together as a people.
This piece has been submitted for inclusion with the Tshwane University of Technology exhibition at the Clarens Arts Festival taking place from 24 tot 27 April 2026.
