About Aquamarine:

Species: Beryl
Deposits found in: Australia, Burma, Brazil, China, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, USA. The most important deposits are in Brazil, which delivers higher grade stones. These are usually more expensive, especially those from the mine in Santa Maria.
Known colours: Aquamarine ranges from light pale blue, almost colourless to deep vivid blue.
Mohs Hardness: 7.5 – 8

Heat treatment can improve the quality of lower grade stones. Treatment by irradiation is not permanent.

Aquamarine is the Latin word for “water of the sea.” The largest Aquamarine of gem quality ever found weighed 110.5 kilograms and delivered multiple stones with a combined weight of over 100,000 carat. The stone was found in 1910 in Marambaya, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Please note: We take great care to ensure that the photographs are an accurate representation of the actual stone, but due to differences in screen quality and resolution, and the fact that the colour of a gemstone is dependent on the type of light it is viewed in, some variation is possible.
