*Please note all loose gemstones are sold on behalf of a third-party wholesaler and pricing is therefore linked to the US$. Regular price updates are performed in order to accommodate fluctuations in the exchange rate and may be carried out without prior notice. Dispatch on loose gemstones will take place 2 working days after purchase to allow for shipping from the supplier to my studio. I do regular inventory updates with them to ensure accuracy, but since these stones are also offered for sale to other jewellery designers, it may happen that a particular stone is no longer available at the time of purchase. In such a case you will receive the opportunity to change your order or a full refund.

Demantoid garnet is a green variety of the species andradite, which is a calcium- and iron-rich garnet. It is the most expensive of the garnets and known mostly only to collectors.
The name “demantoid” is derived from the Old German word for diamond (demant), due to demantoid’s diamond-like fire. In fact, the dispersion (flashes of rainbow colours) in demantoid is greater than that of diamond, but some of the fire is masked by the green body colour.
The crystals are generally small, mostly cutting out to under a carat, and cut stones larger than 2.0 carat are rare, with stones larger than 3.0 carat being extremely rare.
Stones with a darker green colour generally fetch higher prices, however, they display considerably less fire. Which colour is preferred is therefore a personal choice. All of the demantoids in our collection have been selected for their fire and brilliance and bright green colour, although this does not translate well into the photographs. The camera tends to mute the green and dull the fire, but since we really only care what the human eye sees (and not the camera), we have adjusted the images so that the colour is as near a representation of the real thing as is possible with our equipment, although I do confess that they are still not done justice.
Please note: We take great care to ensure that the photographs are an accurate representation of the actual stone, but due to differences in screen quality and resolution, and the fact that the colour of a gemstone is dependent on the type of light it is viewed in, some variation is possible.
